The best arrangement of the production line depends on the degree of processing of the web. Untreated webs are exclusively adjustable on the basis of the web edge or web center-line, because no additional contrast characteristics exist on the web itself. In contrast, finished webs offer more options for sensory position monitoring, such as through printed lines or freely selectable contrasts.
In web edge guiding, the control takes place dependent on the left or right web edge, via an edge sensor. In web center-line guiding, two edge sensors determine the position of the web center as the basis for position adjustment. Contrast management procedures orient themselves on solid or broken printed lines or a contrast edge.
BST ultrasonic sensors scan the web edge touch-free with ultrasonic waves. They are not sensitive to dirt and variations in material transparency and are versatile in their application, such as for materials with dust-like deposits, high transparency films, films with changing transparency, and materials that are sensitive to light.
In optical sensors, the scanning of the web edge is touch-free, via light. They are ideally suited for use on air-permeable, non- or semi-transparent, and thick materials. The sensors are resistant to extraneous light and are not influenced by height fluctuations in the web in the sensor measurement area.
The BST CLS Pro 600 sensor precisely scans lines, print edges, or web edges with color sensors and works extremely reliably, even at high web speeds. Its areas of application include the guiding of contrast edges, web edges, and printed lines.
In digital sensors like the CCD CAM 100, the scanning of the web takes place by capturing contrasts in light. This BST sensor can recognize up to eight contrast transitions.
BST offers Wide Array edge sensors, which feature large detection ranges and also dynamically compensate for various ambient conditions. It enables web widths to be changed on the fly, eliminating the need to physically reposition edge detectors.
