The Electromobility Laboratory (eLab) offers an open infrastructure for research into electromobility.

From technology development and testing to the finished prototype, companies can benefit from the eLab. The resources of the eLab can be rented and used flexibly. The RWTH Aachen as operator of the eLab is available with its technology and consulting competence.


The eLab covers all topics of the electric drive train, from conception and prototype construction to testing:

Battery LabFactory Braunschweig

About the Research Centre

The Battery LabFactory Braunschweig (BLB) is a research centre of the TU Braunschweig. We investigate and develop electrochemical storage devices from laboratory to pilot plant scale. Our research spectrum covers the entire value chain from material development, electrode and cell manufacturing up to recycling.

The BLB holds the technical equipment to analyze large-size traction batteries as well as battery modules and packs. Our infrastructure allows us to answer fundamental and application-oriented research questions. A focus is put on flexible production strategies and process technologies to increase energy density, quality and safety of traction batteries considering electrical, electrochemical, ecological, constructive and economic aspects. For this purpose, the engineering and science expertise of 8 institutes of the TU Braunschweig as well as the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), TU Clausthal and LU Hannover is bundled in this joined LabFactory. Integrated and connected with the research competences of Automotive Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFF), Open Hybrid LabFactory (OHLF), Aeronautics Reserach Centre Niedersachsen (NFL), Zentrum für Brandforschung (ZeBra) and the Center for Informatics and Information Technology (, the BLB offers a unique transdisciplinary research and development platform to experience and design the battery of the future.


VDMA Battery Production

The specialist department of the EMINT association focuses on the production technology of batteries of all technologies, with a current focus on lithium-ion technology. Member companies of the specialist department supply machines, systems, machine components, tools and services in the entire process chain of battery production: From raw material preparation, electrode production and cell assembly to module and packaging production.


Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components

The PEM Motion GmbH (initially PEM Aachen GmbH) was founded in 2014 as a spin-off of the Chair of Production Engineering for Electromobility Components (PEM) of Prof. Achim Kampker at the RWTH Aachen University in the context of the StreetScooter development. PEM Motion sees itself as engineering and consulting partner. We not only develop successful mobility solutions - we industrialize them. From a small team of innovative thinking engineers we have grown into an internationally operating company for automobile manufacturers, mobility providers, suppliers and start-ups. PEM Motion is represented at three locations in Europe and North America.
